HISTORICAL ORIGIN

The Papyrus dining table takes its name and design inspiration from a capital letter with a papyrus motif that once crowned the column of a kiosk built for the Temple of Amun at Hibis in Egypt's Kharga Oasis. The original column, housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, dates from 380–343 BCE and combines stylized representations of common papyrus with foxtail flatsedge plants—an early example of composite capitals, which unite decorative botanical forms into a single, cohesive design. Eichholtz honors this heritage by translating the rhythm and symmetry of the Egyptian capital into the sculptural base of this modern table.
