HISTORICAL ORIGINS
The Dining Table Florence takes its design cues from a Catalan column shaft (c. 1130–40) at The Cloisters, the branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art dedicated to the art and architecture of the Middle Ages. The original marble and stone column shaft, made in present-day France, stands in the museum's Cuxa Cloister, which was reconstructed using fragments from the 12th-century Benedictine monastery of Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa. The Florence dining table adopts the serene, simple form of the museum's column shaft and has been carefully reimagined as an elegant travertine table.
