The Met x Eichholtz introduces the Chair Verplanck, inspired by the elegance of an 18th-century American daybed in The Met’s collection. Finished in luxurious red velvet, Verplanck embodies the refined charm of the daybed featured in the museum’s Verplanck Room, a pre-Revolutionary room in The Met’s American Wing.

Enrich your living space with the timeless appeal and refined comfort of this beautiful contemporary armchair. The Verplanck armchair is inspired by an American settee (ca. 1785) on display in the Met’s Verplanck Room, a pre-Revolutionary room in the museum’s American Wing. Designed for multiple seaters, these settees, with their high backs and low arms, embody the refined social customs of the time.

The original sofa is part of the only remaining suite of 18th-century New York City furniture that once belonged to the influential Verplanck family.
